An Okinawan by the name of Tode Sakugawa (1733-1815) has often been identified as the father of Okinawan karate. This style of Okinawa karate, which is very popular all over the world, was created by the great master Tejun Miagi.Upon his death the most senior disciple Meitoku Yagi (1912 - 2003) became his heir and successor. Shobayashi-ryu (少林流) (Shōrin-ryū) is a style of Okinawan Shorin-ryu karate founded by Eizo Shimabukuro.Eizo Shimabukuro (1925-2017) dropped the Chatan Yara no Kusanku and the Oyadamari no Passai he learned from Chotoku Kyan and he added Kusanku Sho and Dai and Passai Sho and Dai of Yasutsune Itosu lineage. Both styles are derived from similar Chinese martial traditions. This was the first step for the popularization of modern Okinawan Karate.
The following are the teachings of Itosu Sensei: While there he studied under Shushiwa. He devoted his entire life to the spread of Shuri style Karate and ended his 85 year long life in 1915.
In accordance with ancient traditions he was officially appointed the Head of the style and received his karategi and belt from Tedyun Miagi's family. Naha-Te seems to have more of the soft-techniques and emphasis on breathing and control of Chi or Ki (intrinsic energy).
